Responsibilities: Monitors will collect scientific, management, compliance, and other data at sea through interviews of vessel captains and crew, observations of fishing operations, and measurements of selected portions of the catch as directed by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. They will be deployed on vessels targeting groundfish species. Vessels range from 30’ to 100’ and trips are 1 to 14 days long. Two-week, paid training session held in Falmouth, MA starting 4/22/14.

Fish Ageing Technician

Duties:
The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Marine Fisheries, seeks a Laboratory Technician II to aid in the ageing of fish in the Gloucester facility. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing fish scales, otoliths, and other hard parts for ageing; ageing fish and collecting data using image analysis software; and aiding in field work to collect samples for ageing will also be needed at times.

1. Clean and mount scales from various species of fish to glass slides.
2. Section and/or polish otoliths in preparation for age reading.
