CERF Governing Board Endorses US National Ocean Policy Task Force Draft Report

The Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) Governing Board supports the goals and recommendations outlined in the Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force (September 10, 2009) from the White House Council on Environmental Quality. The goals and recommendations are important to insure that the health of the Nation’s ocean, including its estuaries, coasts, wetlands, and Great Lakes, is maintained and improved.

CERF is dedicated to advancing understanding and wise stewardship of estuarine and coastal ecosystems worldwide, through promoting research in estuarine and coastal ecosystems, supporting education of scientists, decision-makers and the public, and facilitating communication among these groups. CERF has approximately 1,650 members, with approximately 1,000 more who are members of its 7 regional Affiliate Societies.

CERF has long supported science-based ecosystem management, the protection and restoration of regional ecosystems, and the enhancement of water quality in the Nation’s bays, estuaries, and coasts by promoting sustainable practices on land. CERF and its members are available to provide expertise on coastal and estuarine ecosystems and their management in support of completing a long-awaited National Ocean Policy.
