Robert Diaz

Professor of Marine Science

College of William and Mary, Virginia Institute of Marine Science

Robert Diaz has been teaching and researching since the 1970s. Like many in his cohort, Dr. Diaz has managed to publish in all three phases of CERF’s journal (Chesapeake Science, Estuaries, and Estuaries and Coasts) and produce many students. His research interests concentrate on benthic processes with many studies done over the years in habitats ranging from intertidal to deep-sea. Currently, Robert Diaz is focused on understanding the consequences of spreading low dissolved oxygen (hypoxia) to ecosystem functioning and organism-sediment interactions (bioturbation), how global warming will change future dissolved oxygen dynamics, and development and application of indices for assessing benthic habitat quality. He also enjoy numbers and oligochaete taxonomy.
