Editors announce modification of journal's name
Estuaries: an international journal of coastal science

Keen observers (as all ERF members are) will notice a small but significant change on the cover of the February 2003 issue of the Federation's journal, Estuaries and Coasts. At the October 2002 Governing Board meeting we decided to add a trailer to the title so that our journal will now have a cover that reads: Estuaries: an international journal of coastal science. Citation of the journal will remain the single word, Estuaries.

The name change highlights two important messages. First, that the journal welcomes papers dealing with a much wider range of coastal environments than just traditional drowned river mouth estuaries. Second, while the geographical roots of the Estuarine Research Federation lie in North America, the scope of the journal is international. We have been moving to send these same two messages through appointments of international scientists to the journal's editorial board, and we believe a clear statement on the cover will help attract a more diverse and international mix of manuscripts and readers to the journal.
