CERF Education Committee is Off and Running
During the CERF Governing board meeting in April, some members of the CERF Education Committee met to discuss tasks on the wish list that we hope to complete during the next two years. The greatest obstacle to education seems to be our methods of outreach, and the committee has decided to put time and effort into redesigning the CERF education web page. A draft plan is circulating and hopefully a revamp of CERF Education and CEReFs (formerly EReFs) will be coming to member computers in the near future.
Along with arranging our own house, we are looking outward to determine how CERF can participate in the education of the collective. In April, we launched LIST-CERF, an electronic discussion group for the coastal and estuarine science community (visit http://groups.google.com/group/LIST-CERF to join). Likewise, we have begun looking at various Wiki sites to see how we can integrate the knowledge and expertise of our members with the outside world interested in learning about estuaries and coasts.
Aside from raising our profile in cyberspace, the CERF education team has begun to brainstorm about educational workshops to be hosted by CERF during non-CERF conference years.
Thank you to the CERF Education Committee Members for their enthusiastic brainstorming: Britt Argow, Randy Chambers, Leila Hamdan, Leanna Heffner, Beth Hinchey-Malloy, Eric Koepfler, Pam Morgan, Janet Nestlerode and Judith Stribling. Ex-officio members are Bob Howarth, Joy Bartholomew and Janet Barnes.
