GIS Analyst for Marine Life Protection Act Initiative

The Marine Science Institute (MSI) at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) is seeking a highly qualified Geographic Information Systems Analyst to join an existing team of GIS specialists in support of the California Marine Life Protection Act Initiative (MLPAI). The incumbent will support marine protected area (MPA) planning by assembling, updating and analyzing geospatial data pertaining to the marine environment. Using a wide range of GIS technologies, the incumbent will generate high quality analytical reports, both manually and programmatically.

The Candidate should poses a minimum of five years experience using ArcGIS, have excellent analytical skills, and be willing to enter a fast paced production environment with short deadlines. Core skills for this position include proficiency in using ArcGIS 9.2, ArcSDE 9.2, SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Access, scripting (e.g., Python, VBA, or others). Additional desired skills include experience with ArcIMS 9.2, PostGIS, GRASS, GeoServer, cartography and marine ecology. Project management skills are a plus.

This position will require up to 20% time traveling to meetings throughout California. Contract is for one year with the possibility of extension.
