Cartographer: Marine Life Protection Act Initiative

The Marine Science Institute (MSI) at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) is seeking a highly qualified Cartographer to join an existing team of GIS specialists in support of the California Marine Life Protection Act Initiative (MLPAI). Under general supervision of the GIS Manager, and with guidance from the MLPAI Team, the incumbent will support marine protected area (MPA) planning by creating high quality printed and digital maps.

The Candidate should poses a minimum of five years experience using ArcGIS and professional graphics software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop), will have demonstrated excellence in publication-quality cartography, and be willing to enter a fast paced production environment with short deadlines. Core skills for this position include proficiency in cartographic techniques including appropriate use of map scale and projections cartographic standards, and information design. Must have the ability to resolve differences between varieties of t geodata and information sources, follow standard procedures and resolve technical differences to produce map products.

This position will require up to 20% time traveling to meetings throughout California. Contract is for one year with the possibility of extension.
