Faculty Research Assistant I: Benthic Ecology/Sediment Biogeochemistry

Location: University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, Solomons, MD

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will assist with National Science Foundation funded research projects investigating, 1) the effects of infaunal species interactions on sediment-seawater fluxes and 2) ocean acidification effects on juvenile bivalves. Duties will include but are not limited to: collecting sediment and organisms, animal husbandry, fabrication, chemical analyses, maintaining a small closed seawater system, implementing experiments, and data entry.

Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in marine ecology, oceanography, marine science, or other relevant field with interdisciplinary experience. Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and within a group, and good communication skills are essential. Familiarity with experimental design, general laboratory research/procedures, and basic nutrient and or carbonate chemistry preferred. Interest or previous experience with near-shore sedimentary processes/ecology is a plus.

Salary: $31,000 per annum plus excellent state of Maryland benefits.
