Research Ecologist Needed
A.I.S., Inc is looking for a qualified individual to include in its proposal to supply The National Marine Fisheries Services Center, Milford Laboratory with one Research Ecologist. The Laboratory has a requirement for research services in the collection, processing, and analysis of ecological data as part of an ongoing research investigation. The laboratory is seeking the assistance of one contractor for experimental preparation, execution, analytical and data processing and publication. The work will include occasional field activities, with a majority of effort working in the laboratory.
The duties and responsibilities for this activity are:
1. Participate in design of ecological studies involving physical, chemical, and biological variables, including application of complex ecological models, exploratory statistics, hypothesis testing and multivariate statistical analysis of communities.
2. Operate collaboratively with other staff in the Biotechnology and Culture & Habitat Branches of the Milford Laboratory, and occasionally function independently, in implementation of experiments.
3. Work with other scientific staff on field analyses of ecological community interactions of cultured bivalve populations and cultivation practices; serve as primary team member responsible for statistical analysis of complex ecological data sets.
4. Provide leadership in research on climate change impacts upon aquaculture and the ecosystems in which aquaculture is practiced at all levels of organization from microbiology to invertebrate and vertebrate animals.
5. Accurately log and process data per established and innovative processing procedures, and conduct statistical analysis of those data.
6. Maintain complete and up-to-date logs of data and statistical results, and participate in the graphic plotting of those results.
7. Collaborate as team member or team leader, in the preparation and presentation of requisite scientific manuscripts in accord with established editorial guidelines.
8. The contractor is required to drive Government vehicles in the process of carrying out duties. The contractor shall posses a valid driver’s license.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate shall have completed college graduate-level studies in the life sciences, specifically marine ecology, and be familiar with the analysis and interpretation of complex, environmental and experimental data sets and possess computer skills to manipulate files and operate programs for advanced data processing. Practical experience and a record of research publication with the ecology of marine organisms, specifically involving climate change effects, would be beneficial. Experience with a variety of statistical software packages and statistical analysis of marine communities is also desired. It would also be beneficial for the contractor to obtain medical clearance for work on NOAA vessels.
