Information for PowerPoint UsersThis information is for those who plan on presenting their talk in PowerPoint. As the presentations at the conference are on a very precise schedule, with 15 to 20 minutes per talk, there will be no time for loading presentations or switching computer connections to the projector between talks. We will require that all presentations be received ahead of the conference so that they can be loaded onto the computer projection systems before the conference begins. The following guidelines must be followed in order to insure a quick transition between presentations. We expect a large number of PowerPoint presentations so we need ample time to sort the presentation files and load and test them. All presentations must be received by 2359 UTC* on October 22, 2001. You will be notified by email upon the receipt of your presentation. Presentations received after this date will not be accepted. All presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint. You should save your presentation as a Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show (with a .pps extension). Your presentation filename should consist of the presenter's last name followed by the abstract number (e. g. "gilbert534.pps"). 1. If PowerPoint file is under 4 MB, please email to sgilbert@marine.usf.edu as an attachment. Please include the day and session of your talk in the body of the email. 2. If PowerPoint file is over 4 MB, it can be sent to me one of two
ways: b. PowerPoint files can also be sent using anonymous ftp. If you send your presentation via ftp, please also send an e-mail to sgilbert@marine.usf.edu with your name, abstract number, day, time, and session of your presentation. If you are working in a UNIX or Linux environment, first type "ftp marine.usf.edu" from the directory that your file is in. This will lead you to a login prompt where you will type "anonymous" as the user name then you will use your email address as your password. Type "cd incoming/ERF2001". Enter the command "binary" then type "put filename.pps "where "filename" is the name of your presentation file in the format described above. When completed, type "bye". If you are ftp'ing the file from your browser, the URL is ftp://ftp.marine.usf.edu/incoming/ERF2001.
From this site, go to your File menu and select "Upload File".
Choose the appropriate file then click on OK. 4. It is recommended that presentations be no longer than twelve slides. This allows for one slide per minute with three minutes remaining for questions. 5. It is STRONGLY encouraged that all PowerPoint users bring overhead transparencies of your presentation in case of any technical difficulties. 6. Any other inquiries, please address to me
. Thanks!
