Carlos Duarte Awarded Prize from Spanish King
Federation board member Carlos M. Duarte was awarded the Premio Nacional de
Investigación in Madrid in January for his outstanding research. At the
award ceremony attended by the Spanish royal family, he was presented
with the Alejandro Malaspina Prize in Natural Resource Science and
Technology by King Juan Carlos.

U.S. Climate Change Science Program Seeks Public Comments
The U.S. CCSP invites the public to provide comments on the Second Draft of CCSP
Synthesis and Assessment Product 4.1, “Coastal elevations and sensitivity to sea
level rise.” This report is one of 21 synthesis and assessment products being
prepared by the Climate Change Science Program (CCSP).

attendees, ERF 2007 was the Federation's largest conference to date. Such an event couldn't happen
without the tireless work of all our presenters, volunteers and committee members.

Name Change and New Constitution Pass with Flying Colors

I write this within a few hours of the ballot count and
finding that an overwhelming number of members voted to change
the Federation’s name to the Coastal and Estuarine Research
Federation (CERF). It was not unanimous, but it was way
beyond a simple majority. Never in my wildest dreams would I have
thought that I would be the last ERF President.

August '07 Edition of Coastal and Estuarine Science News
CESN is proud to announce its latest issue, volume
30 number 4. Topics covered include the importance of community support for
a mangrove restoration project in American Samoa; working "backwards" from seagrass
depth limits to nutrient and TSS loading limits; the effectiveness of mechanical
shredding against the water hyacinth; and using hydroacoustics to survey fish populations.
